Sights in Gerjen

Pier of the ferry

Long ago passengers were taken to the other side of the river Danube by boats. Later, in the 1940’s, a landowner Vendel Szuprics, operated a rowing ferry. In the 1950’s the ferry was tugged by a motor-driven ship. The pier of the ferry was finished in 1998.

Calvinist Church

The church was built in 1870-71. In 1947 the tower was rebuilt.

The organ, which was brought here in 1901, was used in a synagogue in Makó before. Out of three bells, two can be found here.

The bigger weighs 348 kilograms while the other is only 80 kilograms.
On the base of the building a small board is visible which indicates the level of the flood in 1893.

Catholic Church

Laying of the foundation-stone happened in 1948 and the church was consecrated one year later, 17th June 1949. The bell originates from the Budavári Kapisztrán church and it weighs nearly 900 kilograms. It is in the Catholic Church of Gerjen since 1951.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the consecration, the building was renovated and a fresco was made which depicts Vilmos Apor and the Holy Virgin.
