Village organizations

Harvesting festival

After an 18-year pause the old tradition of the harvesting procession was revived in 1991. Since then it is in custom again to hold the harvesting celebration, where the whole village appear in traditional costumes. The occasion is usually opened by the so called “small judge” and the most spectacular part of the event is the beautiful horse carriage which brings the judge, the wife of the judge, the notary and his wife around. The hosts of the event are chosen out of the local youth. Since the reorganization more and more people show interest in the programme. In 1998 the day of the harvesting festival was declared to be the day of the village since the coat of arms and the flag of Gerjen were inaugurated then. In 2000, the year of the Hungarian millennium, the Millennium Day of Gerjen was celebrated on the Harvesting Festival’s day.
